2015: MY YEAR IN PHOTOS

We're almost at the end of the year so to round things off I am posting a selection of some of my favourite photos that I have taken over the last 12 months.

There's a real mix: portraits, street, seascapes, architecture, and the odd landscape. This collection includes shots taken from my phone to illustrate the adage about the best camera being the one you have with you.

If I was pressed to pick my personal favourite(s) it would be a tie between image #1 and #14 in this gallery.

I like the former because it was a spur-of-the-moment idea to create a dramatic self-portrait. It was a remarkably simple (and somewhat precariously balanced) setup, but it achieved a result I could not have been happier with. Sometimes it can take hours / days / months to get the shot; this particular one took about 30 minutes, which is a bonus.

The colourful, abstract shot of a rainy evening in Venice is a favourite because it is unlike any kind of photograph I have taken, before or since. Getting the desired level of motion blur and ensuring the image wasn't too crowded (while standing in the rain!) was a challenge but I love the vibrant, painterly effect.

I hope you enjoy my 2015 in photos and I wish you all a very merry Christmas!
